On August 26, Yan Hanping, Secretary of the CPC Yancheng Municipal Committee, inspected efforts to promote high-quality coastal development. He stressed the need to thoroughly study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important statements on building China into a maritime power, as well as his important remarks on Jiangsu. Yancheng must fully implement the decisions and plans of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and the Jiangsu Provincial Government, remain committed to leveraging its maritime strengths, pursuing green development and driving transformation through innovation, strengthen its distinctive and competitive industries, and foster a new growth engine along the coast, thereby making a greater contribution to the high-quality development of Jiangsu’s coastal areas.

Ports are a key pillar and core engine of high-quality coastal development. At the General Cargo Terminal of the Binhai Port of Yancheng Port Group, Yan inspected the operation of berths, channel development, and capacity expansion and upgrading. He stressed the need to clearly define the port’s functional positioning, make efficient use of its scarce deep-water shoreline resources, accelerate the upgrading of infrastructure, and improve supporting logistics and storage facilities. Efforts should also be made to actively coordinate with the construction of Phase II of the Huai River-to-Sea Waterway project, better plan and develop a river-sea intermodal collection and distribution system, and make every effort to build a gateway to the sea for the Huai River Ecological Economic Belt.

During the inspection, Yan stressed that coastal areas represent a major strategic space for Yancheng’s high-quality development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026–2030). Yancheng must benchmark itself against the requirements of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and the Jiangsu Provincial Government, firmly uphold the city’s positioning as an “International Wetland City, Green Coastal City and Jianghuai Gateway,” and stay committed to the development path of leveraging maritime strengths, pursuing green development and driving transformation through innovation. Yancheng should attract and bring together leading enterprises and supporting projects, strengthen its distinctive and competitive coastal industries, promote integrated development among ports, industrial parks and port-related industries, and strive to build a new growth engine for high-quality coastal development.
