Recently, Jiangsu Institute of Urban and Rural Planning and Design, Yancheng Municipal Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau, and the Yancheng Municipal Disabled Persons’ Federation organized representatives with physical and visual disabilities to visit various urban parks and pocket parks in Yancheng and carry out an immersive special experience activity on accessibility facilities. From the perspective of users, the activity allowed participants to experience firsthand the convenience of visiting parks, the suitability of facilities, and the warmth of services, comprehensively identify problems, collect demands, and help improve quality.
A total of 50 parks were included in this experience activity, including 18 in the urban area, 16 in Dongtai City, and 16 in Sheyang County. They covered various types such as comprehensive parks, community parks, specialized parks, and recreational parks.
The experience team started with Yingbin Park and the Xiaomagou Landscape Green Corridor in the urban area. Through immersive experience and meticulous investigation and verification, it found that, with the advancement of urban renewal, the level of accessibility environment development in Yancheng’s parks had been significantly improved. Park entrances and exits are all equipped with standardized accessible ramps, with gentle slopes and non-slip, smooth surfaces, allowing wheelchairs and baby strollers to pass smoothly. Touring routes in the parks are connected and unobstructed; tactile paving is laid in compliance with standards, and signs are clear. Manhole covers and greenery that may block them are avoided, providing clear guidance for people with visual impairments and effectively creating an all-age-friendly park environment.
Next, the Yancheng Municipal Disabled Persons’ Federation will continue to perform its duties, carry out regular accessibility experience and supervision, focus on the core demands of special groups such as people with disabilities and the elderly, and work with relevant functional departments to continuously promote the upgrading and improvement of accessibility facilities in parks, public transport, and public places. It will shore up shortcomings in construction, management, and maintenance so that every citizen can equally share urban public resources.
