On August 6, the city held a press conference on ecological‑environmental protection achievements during the 14th Five‑Year Plan period, releasing progress in ecological‑environmental protection and biodiversity conservation across the city since the launch of the 14th Five‑Year Plan.

In recent years, the whole city has thoroughly applied Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, fully implemented the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress and all plenary sessions of the 20th CPC Central Committee, and successfully fulfilled all targets and tasks set for the 14th Five‑Year Plan. Standing at the new starting point of the 15th Five‑Year Plan, the city will act in the overall interest of development, pursue coordinated progress in carbon reduction, pollution abatement, ecological expansion and economic growth. With brighter ecological credentials and greener economic performance, it will strive to build a prefecture‑level model for a Beautiful China.

In 2025, the city’s ambient air quality maintained steady improvement. Its comprehensive air‑quality index stood at 3.24, ranking first in the province. There were 312 days of good‑to‑excellent air quality, 4 days more than at the end of the 13th Five‑Year Plan period. The ratio of days with good‑to‑excellent air quality reached 85.5 %, keeping the city among the top tier across the province.

The safe utilization rate of key construction land plots and polluted farmland in the city has hit 100 % for five consecutive years, and soil environmental quality has remained generally safe and stable.

Marine environmental quality in the city stayed stable. The share of coastal waters with good‑to‑excellent water quality stood at 99.9 % in spring, 91.1 % in summer and 61.1 % in autumn. The annual average proportion reached 84.1 %, representing a 49.5‑percentage‑point increase compared with the end of the 13th Five‑Year Plan period.

Biodiversity sustains life on Earth and underpins human survival and development. In recent years, the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government have been guided by Xi Jinping’s Thought on Ecological Civilization. Through improving institutional frameworks, enhancing conservation capacity and carrying out public‑outreach campaigns, the city has continuously burnished its two international name cards: a World Natural Heritage site and an International Wetland City. Phased progress has been made in local biodiversity conservation since the 14th Five‑Year Plan.

The number of recorded biological species in the city has risen year on year, reaching 4,759 species, an increase of 1,451 compared with 2018. The number of overwintering red‑crowned cranes exceeded 600 from 2025 to 2026, hitting a ten‑year high.
