Recently, the Yancheng Wetlands and World Natural Heritage Sites Protection and Management Center released Protection and Management Report (2025–2026) for Yancheng natural World Heritage sites: Migratory Bird Sanctuaries along the Coast of Yellow Sea-Bohai Gulf of China (Phase I). As China’s first coastal wetland sites that have been inscribed on the World Heritage List and a global pioneer in migratory bird conservation along flyways, Yancheng has in recent years deepened its efforts across five core areas: protection and management, scientific research and monitoring, public engagement and showcase, sustainable development, and international cooperation. The efficiency and quality of its protection governance have steadily improved, marking a leap from a local ecological practice benchmark to a global leader in coastal wetland governance.

 The report points out that Yancheng continues to reinforce its wetland ecological security barriers and build a multi-dimensional management and protection system. Focusing on key links in migratory bird protection, the city has issued special action plans and coordinated multi-departmental joint operations for bird protection, safeguarding the migratory bird flyways in an all-round manner. Meanwhile, Yancheng has improved its multi-level wildlife rescue network and pioneered a county-level compensation system in Jiangsu Province, effectively resolving human-wildlife conflicts while balancing ecological security with public well-being.
