On May 12, our city held the third plenary session of the Sixth Presidium of the Municipal Disabled Persons’ Federation (DPF) and the Joint Meeting on Disability Work. The meeting reviewed and summarized the city’s various disability‑related efforts since 2025, and set out the main tasks for the current and upcoming period. Vice Mayor Gao Shangde attended and addressed the meeting.
Over the past year, the city’s practices in helping disabled people obtain employment and increase income were promoted at the national conference on employment for persons with disabilities. The typical practice of installing intelligent crosswalk voice prompt devices in Dongtai City was included in the first national list of replicable practices for accessible environment construction. De’ai Tower was selected as one of the top ten national cases of “Good Accessible Design”. Five projects, including the “Four Rehabilitation Assistance Initiatives”, were rated as innovative projects of the provincial DPF system for 2025. The city’s team participated in the National Paralympic Games, the National Special Olympic Games, and national championships, winning 16 gold, 9 silver, and 7 bronze medals.
The year 2026 is a critical period for the start and implementation of the 15th Five-Year Plan, and also an important juncture for the high‑quality development of disability causes. The meeting called for raising awareness, strengthening the sense of responsibility, and guiding the direction of disability work with a higher political stance; focusing on actual needs and seeking practical results to build a care service system for disabled people with higher service standards; and building consensus and multi-party coordination to form a collaborative pattern for disability causes with stronger social synergy – so as to show greater initiative in improving the livelihood and well‑being of disabled people.
