Yancheng Dongtai Tiaozini Wetland is a renowned “bird paradise”. On December 9, reporters learned from the Tiaozini Scenic Area that during two rounds of routine waterbird surveys conducted in November by researchers from the “Spoon-billed Sandpiper in China” survey organization, five species of wildlife under first-class national key protection and 15 species under second-class national key protection were recorded. Thousands of waterbirds were observed hovering, roosting, and foraging in the shallows, creating a spectacular sight.

The survey area included the “720 Highland” on the western side of the Tiaozini Scenic Area, the high-tide habitat of “10,000 Mu (about 6.67 km2)” at the Liangduo River Estuary and its southern region, as well as the Tiaonan Sandbar, the Fangtang River Estuary, and the Chuanshuiwan Coastal Restoration Project Zone. The two rounds of surveys recorded five species under first-class national key protection: the Nordmann’s Greenshank, Saunders’s Gull, Black-faced Spoonbill, Dalmatian Pelican, and Oriental Stork. Additionally, 15 species under second-class national key protection were recorded, including the Tundra Swan, Greater White-fronted Goose, Baikal Teal, Eurasian Curlew, and Far Eastern Curlew.
