On December 4th, exciting news came from the Yancheng Yellow Sea Wetland: 19 flamingos have flown to the Tiaozini Wetland for winter. With an increase of 2 birds compared to last year, this has set a new observation record for this bird species in Yancheng.
These pink elves from afar have been coming to Yancheng for winter for 11 consecutive years since 2015, with their numbers rising from 1 to 19. Their wings have cast a “vote of confidence” for Yancheng’s excellent ecological environment. In 2019, the Yancheng Yellow Sea Wetland was inscribed in the World Heritage List, becoming the first coastal wetland-type world natural heritage on China’s thousands of kilometers of coastline. It has pioneered the protection of migratory birds worldwide and provided a new “Chinese experience” for ecological protection in densely populated and economically developed areas around the globe.
