On July 26, during the 46th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in New Delhi of India, the Migratory Bird Sanctuaries along the Coast of the Yellow Sea-Bohai Gulf of China (Phase II) was inscribed on World Heritage List which includes five sites such as Shanghai’s Chongming Dongtan. This extension shows “Yancheng Style” of coastal wetland protection is highly rated internationally.
In July, 2019, Yancheng Yellow Sea wetlands was inscribed on World Heritage List as the Migratory Bird Sanctuaries along the Coast of the Yellow Sea-Bohai Gulf of China (Phase I). This additional 5 nominated sites includes Shanghai’s Chongming Dongtan, Dongying’s Huanghekou, Cangzhou’s Nandagang, Dalian’s Snake Island in the Laotieshan and Dandong Yalu River. Professor Lei Guangchun, deputy director of Wetland Science and Technology Committee of National Forestry and Grassland Administration and chair of the Scientific and Technical Review Panel of Ramsar Convention, said that this extension is a major adjustment of Phase I and it plays a significant role in protecting global migratory birds’ flyways and further promoting Yancheng Yellow Sea wetlands’ protection and sustainable development.
