On the afternoon of June 24, the Standing Committee of the Ninth Municipal People’s Congress conducted a special inquiry on urban renewal work and carried out a satisfaction evaluation. Wang Rong, Chairman of the Municipal People’s Congress Standing Committee and Secretary of the Party Leadership Group, attended the event. Vice Chairmen Xu Huaming, Liu Guangqiu, and Liu Xiangyang, along with Secretary-General Shi Jianxia, participated. Wang Lianchun, Member of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Party Committee and Vice Mayor, reported on the relevant situation and made a statement of commitment.

Inquiry is an important form of supervision exercised by the People’s Congress Standing Committee. This special inquiry adopted a “one question, one answer” format. Some members of the Municipal People’s Congress Standing Committee and deputies to the People’s Congress raised questions on hot-button issues of public concern, including strengthening the guiding role of planning, enhancing the protection, inheritance, and active utilization of cultural heritage, improving project reserves and maturity management, encouraging and guiding market entities to participate in urban renewal, removing policy bottlenecks, creating vibrant neighborhoods according to local conditions, and building complete communities. The principal heads of the Municipal Bureau of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism, Development and Reform Commission, Finance Bureau, Bureau of Natural Resources and Planning, and Bureau of Commerce, among others, responded conscientiously one by one.

The meeting pointed out that urban renewal is a comprehensive and systematic strategic action to promote high-quality urban development. It is necessary to raise ideological awareness, shoulder the mission and responsibility of urban renewal work from a higher standpoint, and make every effort to elevate the city’s urban renewal work to a new level. We must keep the direction and path clear, take more practical measures to ensure that urban renewal efforts yield tangible results, adhere to a systematic approach, adapt measures to local conditions, and maintain a problem-oriented stance, fully respect the laws of urban development, and strive to build a modern people’s city that is innovative, livable, beautiful, resilient, civilized, and smart.
