On July 9, the 200,000-TEU ICT Empty Container Center officially began operations at Yancheng Port. This empty container center, jointly developed by Shanghai Port and Yancheng Port, serves as a base for empty container logistics in Northern Jiangsu. With an annual turnover capacity of 200,000 TEUs, the center aims to provide ample foreign trade empty container resources, convenient local pick-up and return services, and lower container usage costs for cargo owners.

A representative from Shanghai Port Group highlighted that the ICT Yancheng business of the Yangtze River Delta Company was successfully launched at Tinghu Port in Yancheng in February this year, covering all major inland port ICT business points in Northern Jiangsu. The successful establishment of the empty container center not only represents a significant achievement in deepening business cooperation between the two ports but also marks the beginning of a new phase of comprehensive collaboration.

The new center is expected to reduce costs for enterprises. For example, picking up an empty container directly from Yancheng Port instead of Shanghai Yangshan Port can save approximately 500 yuan per TEU in transportation costs, potentially saving over 100 million yuan annually and reducing overall logistics transport time by half.

Yancheng Port Holdings Group’s main representative stated that the operation of the center and direct shipping rout will fully meet customers’ needs for empty containers, encourage more Yancheng import and export enterprises to switch from road to water transport, and continuously increase the proportion of goods transported via Yancheng. This will effectively transform Yancheng Port into an extension area for Shanghai Port’s empty container services, enhancing the turnover efficiency of empty containers at Yancheng Port.
